The Veterinary Team at Woolton Vets

Alex McVey

Veterinary Surgeon and Owner

I grew up in south liverpool and decided to stay local and study at the University of Liverpool. I have a keen interest in anaesthesia and pain relief and feel particularly passionate about geriatric care and dentistry. Outside of work I enjoy following and playing sport, above all Liverpool football club, and attending music concerts.

Sarah McVey

Veterinary Surgeon and Owner

I grew up in rural Somerset but came to the University in Liverpool where I met Alex and decided to stay. I enjoy all aspects of being a vet but have a particular interest in internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. Outside of work I enjoy hill walking, running, yoga and attending music concerts. Alex and I have a blue roan cocker spaniel called Maggie who is a bundle of energy and excitement and we spend most of our free time entertaining her.

Emma Winckle

Veterinary Surgeon

I grew up in Lincolnshire but came to the University in Liverpool where I met my partner and decided to stay. I have a particular interest in internal medicine and have a soft spot for elderly cats with attitude. Outside of work I enjoy board games, knitting and tropical fishkeeping. At home, I have a cat called Laurie and a very speedy tortoise called Sheldon, along with a variety of tropical fish.

Alex McCormack

Veterinary Surgeon

I grew up in Surrey, deprived of pets by my parents and apparently declaring I wanted to be a ‘doggy doctor’ aged 2. I studied Veterinary Science at The University of Liverpool and after meeting my husband at Carnatic Halls I never left. I now consider myself an adopted scouser. We are happily settled in south Liverpool with our two young daughters and Amber the fox red Labrador. I’m kept pretty busy by my girls but love travel, baking and meeting up with my friends and their dogs for nice walks. Clinically my main interests are soft tissue surgery and behaviour cases. I’m enjoying working back in Liverpool after a few years working further afield.

Vicky Williams

Hi, my name is Vicky Williams and I am the head nurse here at Woolton Veterinary Centre. I qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2014 and I started working here in 2018. My role is to oversee the nursing team and the ordering of supplies for the practice. I enjoy nursing patients back to full health and also have an interest in exotics, radiography and theatre. In my spare time I enjoy going to the cinema, being active and socialising with friends and family. At home I have a cocker spaniel called Maisie, a cat called Beanz and a bearded dragon called Boba. I love to have animals in my life and I plan to expand my menagerie at home in the future!!

Jess Bowey

Hello! My name is Jess and I’m one of the RVN’s here at Woolton Veterinary Centre and am delighted to be working for South Liverpool’s only independent vets.

I am originally from Anglesey however I have spent all my nursing career in Liverpool and absolutely love the area. I am particularly fond of anaesthesia, nursing clinics and love cats and small furries.

Outside of work, I am a real big foodie and love sampling the local restaurants and cafes. I love my music and having a good old dance, attending music venues around the city and going back home to unwind in the countryside.

Kirsty Thompson

Hello, I’m Kirsty and I am thrilled to have joined the team here at Woolton veterinary centre as an RVN. I love inpatient care as well as engaging with pets and clients in nurse consultations.

I have a keen interest in emergency and critical care and hope to one day extend my qualification and do an additional certificate in this.

I live at home with my partner and our two sons. I also have two cats, Maggie and Teddy, and a Staffordshire bull terrier called Maya who is my pride and joy!
Outside of work I love going to the cinema, going on long dog walks, and spending quality time with my family.

Sarah Martinez

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Hi, I’m Sarah and I have been working in this profession since 2015. I’m originally from Germany, where I gained my qualification as an RVN the same year I moved to Liverpool, in 2018.

I have been working in small animal practices with a variation of many species. My personal favourite are rabbits, however, I love looking after all inpatients – from Hamsters to Great Danes.

I’m excited to be a part of this team! I especially enjoy inpatient care and theatre.

Outside of work I love to meet up with friends, go to the gym and be outside in nature. I live with my partner, our two rabbits Tiffy and Chewbacca and our clumsy cat, Beans. We would love to adopt a dog (or two) one day to expand our little family.

Emily Griffin

Student Vet Nurse
I joined the team in September 2020 as a Kennel care assistant and quickly progressed to student vet nurse.
I have always loved animals and taking care of them, whether they are my own or not.
In work, I look after all of the hospitalised inpatients whether caring for those after their operation or helping to take blood samples. In my new role of Student Vet nurse, I am looking forward to being able to start taking the blood samples myself and getting further involved with patients and clients as my skills and knowledge grow.
My favorite part of the day is being able to cuddle all of your wonderful pets.
When I am not at work I will be down at the yard with my horses – you will probably just find me in the stable giving Millie a pamper as she doesn’t like too much exercise. I also enjoy going on long scenic walks in the countryside.

Kennel Care Assistant

Hi, my name is Loren and I am the new Kennel Care Assistant at Woolton Veterinary Centre. I studied Zoology at Leeds University and I’m really excited to start this new career journey after being unfulfilled in my previous role as an accountant. I am originally from the lovely countryside town of Leek in Staffordshire and love going back there for long walks with our beautiful Romanian rescue dog, Ernie.

At home we have a cat called Rupert, Ernie the dog, three toads, two geckos, an axolotl and a tank full of fish – I don’t think there is enough space on the website to name them all! In my spare time I like baking, sewing, running and playing hockey.

I’m really excited to start my journey into the world of veterinary care and I’m looking forward to studying to become a veterinary nurse in the future!

I have shared my working days with some of the most amazing and talented people, and I have been on life journeys with many animals.
I live at home with my son, and we are lucky to share our home with our handsome beagle Bubby who is 10, and a foster dog Lottie , who is 17.

Client Care Assistant

My name is Charo and I joined the team in November 2022. I grew up in Barcelona as my dad is Spanish and I moved back to Liverpool when I was 15.

I have been working in the leisure industry for many years but it has always been my dream to work with animals.

I currently don’t have any pets of my own so working here is a great opportunity to mingle with all of the beautiful furies that come through the door every day.

Outside of work I enjoy outdoor running, cooking and chilling out with my partner.

Hannah Martin

Admin Care Assistant

Hi! My name is Hannah and I joined the practice in December 2021 as a Kennel Care Assistant. As of August 2022 I have moved over to the reception/admin side of things and now in a new role as an Admin Care Assistant!

Laura Graham

Team and Client Relations Manager

I joined the team in September 2020 in the role of practice administrator. I had previously worked for many years in a managerial role within another industry and had more recently worked as a receptionist at a vet’s. I was delighted to be promoted to manager in August 2021 and I love my job here at Woolton vets.

My favourite part of the day is meeting all of our different patients, each with their own unique personalities and seeing how much joy they bring to their owners. I grew up loving animals; always having cats, dogs and budgies. At home I have a small chihuahua with a big personality called Bowie, he keeps me entertained and he gives the best cuddles.

Out of work I enjoy reading crime fiction, I enjoy cooking and experimenting with new foods and flavours and I love to travel and experience new cultures.

David Roberts Reynolds

Strategy and Development Manager

From leaving school I secured my first job working for Bryan McVey (Alex’s dad). After several years of study, I achieved my childhood dream when I gained my Veterinary Nursing qualification in 2002. My first management role came about shortly afterwards when I became Head nurse of the clinic. For almost 20 years, I had the honour of working alongside Bryan.

In 2022, I joined the team at Woolton vets. My role leans heavily on my passion to provide the highest standards of care to both patients and clients alike, whilst helping to create positive environments where team members can thrive and feel supported.

Outside of work I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, which often involves food in some capacity! Sports wise, I enjoy cycling, playing tennis and watching football. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, although I’m far from being the next Alan Titchmarsh!
